Defence, AAI to Survey Land for Adilabad Airport Project
According to sources, the state government is keen to develop the Adilabad airport as a multi-operational facility, accommodating cargo services, IAF training, and civil aviation operations

ADILABAD: Area mapping has gained importance for the proposed Adilabad airport, as it will form the basis for preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and land acquisition. Officials from the defence ministry and the Airports Authority of India are expected to begin mapping the area before the DPR is finalised. Land acquisition will be carried out based on the findings of the survey.
During the mapping exercise, officials will examine multiple factors, including residential areas, agricultural land, high-tension electricity towers, land availability, and other technical aspects.
According to sources, the state government is keen to develop the Adilabad airport as a multi-operational facility, accommodating cargo services, IAF training, and civil aviation operations.
Adilabad BJP MP Godam Nagesh said the airport proposal gained momentum due to joint initiatives of the state and Central governments. He added that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has shown interest in developing the airport to meet Telangana’s future aviation needs.
Nagesh said identifying the side from which land would be acquired is crucial, as land acquisition is a key and sensitive component involving several technicalities. He said the state government has issued GO 73 to acquire 700 acres for the proposed airport.
He noted that land acquisition would take time, as farmers must be willing to part with their land, or officials would need to persuade them and finalise compensation rates. The MP said the project is irreversible at this stage and expressed confidence that the proposal would gain further momentum with the involvement of Union minister for coal and mines G. Kishan Reddy, who has visited the proposed site.
AAI officials will take a final call on infrastructure components such as the terminal building, runway, parking bays, and Air Force training facilities. The state government, IAF, and the defence ministry are jointly undertaking the mapping of the land earmarked for the airport.
