Nalgonda Sarpanch Candidate Seeks Cash Refund From Voters After Defeat

Unusual post-poll drama unfolds as defeated candidate demands money back from voters after heavy loss

Narkatpally: In a bizarre incident following the Panchayat elections, a defeated sarpanch candidate allegedly went door to door demanding the return of money he had distributed to voters. The incident took place in Aurvani village of Narkatpally mandal in Nalgonda district.

Kalluri Balaraju, who contested as a sarpanch candidate with the support of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), had reportedly distributed cash to voters during the election campaign. However, he suffered a decisive defeat, with Congress candidate Jakkala Paramesh winning the election by a margin of 450 votes.
Following the loss, Balaraju was seen roaming the village holding a photograph of a deity and appealing to voters. He reportedly told them, “If you voted for me, swear in the name of God. Otherwise, return the money I gave you.” It is alleged that he managed to recover money from several voters in this manner.
Balaraju’s wife said that they would not have asked for the money back if the defeat margin had been 50 or 60 votes. She stated that since he lost by a large margin of 450 votes, they decided to demand the money back and informed voters accordingly.
