Defeat BRS In Municipal Polls: Ponguleti

Addressing public meetings, the minister criticised the previous BRS government, alleging that its decade-long rule had caused hardship to people due to flawed policies: Reports

NALGONDA: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Wednesday called on voters to defeat the BRS in the ongoing municipal elections, urging that its candidates be prevented from even retaining their deposits. Srinivas Reddy conducted an election campaign across the 10th, 11th, 28th, 29th and 30th wards of Yedulapuram in Khammam district in support of Congress candidates.

Addressing public meetings, the minister criticised the previous BRS government, alleging that its decade-long rule had caused hardship to people due to flawed policies. He said the Congress returned to power in the 2023 Assembly elections with a focus on people-centric governance under the ‘Praja Palana’ programme, and claimed that voters had rejected the BRS in subsequent Lok Sabha and gram panchayat elections as well.

He accused the former BRS government of diluting housing schemes and neglecting welfare measures, including the double bedroom housing programme and facilities in student hostels. He alleged that mess and cosmetic charges for hostel students were not revised during the previous regime, and said the Congress government had increased these allocations to ensure nutritious food after assuming office.

The minister said beneficiaries of welfare schemes were being selected without political bias, based on poverty criteria. He appealed to voters to support the Congress in the municipal elections and reiterated his commitment to transforming Yedulapuram into a model municipality.

Srinivas Reddy assured that works related to drinking water supply, roads and drainage would be taken up on a priority basis after the elections.
