Deal With Amazon Likely To Market Women SHG Products

HYDERABAD: The state government is in the final stages of negotiations with e-commerce giant Amazon to launch products created by Dwcra (Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas) groups on its platform. The partnership aims to provide worldwide reach and streamlined logistics for self-help group (SHG) creations.
The initiative will bring a variety of products — including hand-woven Indiramma textiles, eco-friendly handicrafts, household essentials, and specialised food items like mahua laddus — to international shoppers. These products have gained significant traction at local venues like the three-acre Indira Mahila Shakti Bazaar near Hitec City and Shilparamam.
The ‘mahua laddu’, prepared by tribal women, has emerged as a stand-out success with a turnover of ₹1.27 crore. In the undivided Adilabad district, particularly Komaram Bheem Asifabad, over 120 tribal families have benefited from the collection of mahua flowers. Approximately 2,300 kilograms of these laddus are supplied monthly to 77 residential schools under the Girijan Poshan Mitra scheme, said an official.
The government aims to provide a role for SHGs in diverse sectors, including solar power, logistics, and operating fuel stations. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, speaking at the Indiramma sari launch last month, indicated that an impending memorandum of understanding (MoU) would further the goal of helping one crore women become "crorepatis" through sustainable entrepreneurship.
The state is focusing on providing digital training and quality certification to ensure these groups meet global standards. Strengthening this economic push is the high bank trust in SHGs, driven by a 98 per cent loan repayment rate. This year, the government provided the groups with a ₹30 crore order for stitching of school uniforms and works worth ₹534 crore under the Amma Adarsha Patashala scheme.
