DCA Tests 7,200 Med Samples, 700Cases Filed

Health minister directed the officials of the DCA to take strict action against organisations issuing misleading advertisements related to medicines.

Hyderabad: Telangana Drug Control Administration (DCA) has initiated action against 2,000 firms since January this year. This was informed by the Director General (DCA), Shahnawaz Qasim, in a review meeting with the health minister C. Damodar Rajanarsimha, on Wednesday at the Indian Institute of Health and Wellness Centre at Vengalraonagar.

Health minister directed the officials of the DCA to take strict action against organisations issuing misleading advertisements related to medicines.

The DG briefed the minister on the authority’s work during 2024 and 2025. In 2024, the DCA carried out 25,939 inspections and took action against 4,142 firms that violated regulations. Between January and July 2025, around 16,481 inspections were conducted, leading to action against 2827 firms.

From January 2024 to July 2025, around 7,200 medicine samples were tested, of which 186 were found to be of substandard quality and legal action was taken against the concerned firms. Nearly 700 cases were booked.

The minister ordered stringent measures against pharma companies, distributors and retailers manufacturing or selling spurious and substandard drugs, warning that medicine is directly linked to human lives and there can be no compromise in this regard.

The minister further called for speeding up the upgradation of drug testing laboratories and announced that more drug inspector posts would soon be sanctioned and filled to further strengthen the DCA.
