DCA Seizes 160 Bottles Of Illegal Oxytocin In Patancheru; Raids Conducted On Cattle Feed Shops

Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration-Telangana on Thursday, seized 160 bottles of suspected oxytocin injections during raids on two cattle feed shops in Patancheru, Sangareddy district. Acting on credible information, DCA officials conducted raids on May 7 and seized 40 unlabelled 200-ml bottles from one fodder shop and 120 unlabelled 250-ml bottles from another. The stocks were allegedly intended for use in cattle to artificially induce milk let-down and boost milk production, a practice banned due to its detrimental effects on animal health. Officials said samples had been collected for laboratory testing, while further investigation was underway. Illegal stocking and sale of oxytocin is punishable with imprisonment of up to five years under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
