DCA raids quack’s clinic in Medaram; 35 varieties of medicines seized

Hyderabad: Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) raided a quack’s clinic in Medaram village at Tadvai mandal in Mulugu district and seized drugs stocked for sale.
On credible information, the DCA officials raided the premises of a quack identified as Gadam Manoj in Medaram, who was conducting clinical practice without proper qualifications at his clinic. They detected 35 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, analgesics, etc. stocked at the premises without a drug licence. Physician’s samples were also found, DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said.
The stock worth Rs.18,000 was seized. The DCA officials detected several antibiotics - Cefixime, Cefpodoxime, Amoxycillin, etc, at the clinic during raids. Indiscriminate sale of antibiotics by unqualified persons may have disastrous consequences on the health of the public, including emergence of antimicrobial resistance.
Officials found steroids - Dexamethasone at the clinic. Misusing steroids can have serious health consequences, including immune system suppression, hormonal imbalances, muscle and bone weakness, cardiovascular problems, and psychological effects. The indiscriminate use of steroids poses significant risks to public health.
