DCA officials seize Alka-Shot oral solution for making misleading claims

Hyderabad: Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) seized Alka-Shot oral solution, an allopathic medicine, in a medical store in Bhupalpally for making a misleading claim that it treats kidney stones, which is a contravention of Drugs Rules-1945.

The Rule 106 (Schedule J) of Drugs Rules-1945 prohibits claims of certain drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders. No drug shall make claims regarding diseases or disorders specified in rules. During the raid conducted to detect medicines in the market with misleading claims, the DCA detected Alka-Shot oral solution manufactured by Corona Remedies Private Limited in Solan district in Himachal Pradesh, according to DCA Director-General Kamalasan Reddy.

Persons who make misleading claims regarding drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders specified in Drugs Rules-1945 are punishable under Drugs and Cosmetics Act-1940, with imprisonment which may extend to two years and with fine.

DCA officials said the public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through toll-free number: 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10.30 am to 5 pm on all working days.
