Hyderabad: Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has detected an ayurvedic medicine ‘Platocore-total syrup,’ circulating in the market with misleading claim on its label that it is helpful to cure in all kinds of flu and fever, which is a contravention of Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act-1954.

The Act prohibits advertisement of certain drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders. No person shall take part in publication of advertisement regarding the diseases or disorders indicated under the Act.

The officials detected the ayurvedic medicine at a medical store in Kaghaznagar in Kumura Bheem-Asifabad district and the stocks were seized. Officials said that further investigation would be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders. Persons who make misleading advertisements regarding drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders are punishable as per rules with imprisonment which may extend to six months, or with fine, or with both.

In a separate raid, the DCA busted illegal stocking and sale of huge quantities of veterinary medicines at Girmajipet in Warangal.

Acting on credible information, the officials raided Saikiran poultry and vet medicals at Girmajipet in Warangal for operating a shop illegally, without a drug licence.

During the raid, the officers detected unauthorized stocking of a large quantity of veterinary medicines for sale. A total of 26 varieties of veterinary medicines were found stocked on the premises and the stock worth Rs.2.5 lakh was seized.

Rules stipulate that if medicines are sold or stocked for sale at more than one place, a separate licence shall be obtained in respect of each such place.

The DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders, officials said.

They said the wholesalers and dealers who supply medicines to such unlicensed shops, which are stocking and selling drugs without a drug license, are also punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, and stringent action shall be taken against such wholesalers and dealers.

They shall mandatorily ensure that the recipient entities hold a valid drug license before supplying medicines to them. The DCA issues drug licenses for the stocking and selling of medicines in accordance with the provisions of the Act. Stocking drugs for sale without a drug licence at the premises is punishable under the Act, with imprisonment for a term of up to five years.

The public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the DCA’s toll-free number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10.30 am to 5 pm on all working days.
