Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a 34-year-old man was brutally stabbed to death near his residence at Doodh Bowli on Saturday afternoon.
Police said the victim, Amit Singh, a private company employee, was attacked around 3.30 pm while riding home. Prime accused Raju and his associates intercepted his bike and assaulted him with daggers before fleeing.
Singh, who was married with four children, succumbed to injuries late in the night at Osmania General Hospital. Investigators suspect Singh's alleged extramarital affair may have been the motive.
“We have formed three special teams to arrest the assailants,” a police officer disclosed.
3 Held with hashish oil worth ₹9 L
Dundigal police on Saturday arrested three persons for allegedly possessing and attempting to sell hashish oil in the city.
The accused were identified as Asrani Sunil Kumar alias Sonu, 34, a car driver from Vivekananda Colony; Katta Chintu, 27, a gardener from Vajpai Nagar; and Sonji Suryakanth alias Sury, 26, a fitter residing in Srinivas Nagar.
Police said the trio procured 1.3 kg of hashish oil, valued at about ₹9 lakh, from an absconding accused, Sadhuram from Odisha, who brought it to Hyderabad for sale.
During the operation, police seized the contraband along with three mobile phones and a motorcycle. A case was registered under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(C) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Drive on to trace missing kids
Cyberabad police have launched ‘Operation Smile–XII’, a month-long drive to trace missing children and rescue vulnerable minors across the commissionerate.
Deputy commissioner of police (Women & Child Safety Wing) K. Srujana Karnam said the operation, which began on January 1, will continue till January 30. The focus is on rescuing children engaged in begging, rag-picking, child labour and trafficking, and ensuring their rehabilitation.
Twelve special teams, each headed by a sub-inspector and including a woman constable, will conduct field operations in vulnerable areas. Facial recognition technology through the ‘Darpan’ mobile app will be used to reunite missing children with their families.
Officials from child welfare committees, labour and health departments, district child protection units and voluntary organisations attended a review meeting and assured support for rehabilitation and follow-up care.
Wife, neighbour held for murder
Nacharam police in Medchal district solved a murder case within 24 hours and arrested the wife of the deceased and her neighbour.
Police said Narayan Behera, 35, a plumber from Odisha, was found dead with head injuries in his rented house at Shanti Nagar, Old Meerpet, around midnight on January 2.
Investigations revealed that his wife, Banditha Behera, 27, and neighbour Vidya Sagar, 25, with whom she was allegedly in an illicit relationship, murdered him on January 1 around 10 pm by assaulting him with an iron rod.
Banditha, a contract sweeper, hails from Ichhapur in Andhra Pradesh while Vidya Sagar, a welder, is from Bihar. Both lived in the same building at Anand Nilayam, Old Meerpet.
The duo were arrested on January 3 and produced before court. Further investigation is underway.
