Dangerous Driving on ORR Continues; Lack of Enforcement Exposed

The toll collection, operation and maintenance of ORR have been awarded to IRB infrastructure developers for 30 years on the Toll, Operate and Transfer (TOT) basis.

Hyderabad:Another incident of dangerous driving on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) went viral on Thursday exposing the lack of enforcement by the Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited, a wing of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority.

The toll collection, operation and maintenance of ORR have been awarded to IRB infrastructure developers for 30 years on the Toll, Operate and Transfer (TOT) basis. However, frequent traffic offences, which also resulted in fatal accidents are being witnessed on ORR.

However, in an incident that occurred on August 15 and was viral on Thursday, a car escaped a mishap. Between the ORR exit 11 and 12 towards Gachibowli, a heavy vehicle completely slowed in the middle of the road and was stationary too for a couple of minutes, in an attempt to reverse the vehicle and exit ORR by traversing in the wrong direction.

When the driver reversed the heavy vehicle, the major portion of the access-controlled express was occupied and the cars had only one lane towards the central median to move forward.

Recently, casualties due to a parked truck on the ORR were also reported. However, despite such incidents being reported, wrong route driving continues, lane violations occur and speed is not followed on the ORR. One of the major problems that continue to persist on the 158 km ORR is parked trucks.
