Cyclone Brings Cool Weather To Hyderabad, Rain Alert In Four Districts

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 50-60 kmph, reaching 70 kmph, were also forecast in parts of nine districts.

Hyderabad:Cloudy skies and a cool breeze brought relief to Hyderabad on Wednesday as the cyclonic storm over coastal Andhra Pradesh lowered daytime temperatures across Telangana. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), meanwhile, issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain in four districts.

A scientist from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) said cloud cover caused by the cyclone had reduced incoming solar radiation, bringing daytime temperatures down to 28°C-32°C across the state. The conditions were expected to persist until Thursday.

Temperatures would return to normal thereafter, rising to 32°C-35°C across Telangana and 30°C-32°C in the Core Urban Region (CURE). The scientist said winter conditions usually set in around the second week of November.

Hyderabad recorded a maximum temperature of 32.2°C and a minimum of 22.6°C on Wednesday, according to the IMD's 2 pm bulletin. The department forecast generally cloudy skies, with light rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds of 30-40 kmph over the next 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures were expected to hover around 30°C and 23°C, respectively.

The IMD issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda and Suryapet districts. A yellow alert for heavy rain was issued for Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanumakonda.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 50-60 kmph, reaching 70 kmph, were also forecast in parts of nine districts.

The cyclone crossed the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam early on Wednesday, with landfall completed by 8 am. The storm packed sustained winds of 125-135 kmph, gusting up to 150 kmph, and was expected to weaken gradually as it moved northwestwards.

The IMD warned of waterlogging, traffic disruptions, reduced visibility and possible damage to crops and vulnerable structures in rain-hit areas. It advised residents to avoid waterlogged areas, check traffic updates and stay away from unsafe structures.
