Cyberabad Traffic Police Seek Study On 7-Km Counterflow BRT Corridor

The proposed BRT corridor covers seven kilometres: Reports

HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad traffic police reviewed the proposed counterflow Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system along the JNTU Junction–Hitec City–Raidurgam Metro Rail Station corridor to improve public transport and ease congestion. Following the meeting on October 1, the officials on Thursday examined the traffic, road safety and infrastructure survey conducted by the Foundation for Research and Innovation in Policy (FRIP), in coordination with the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC).

The proposed BRT corridor covers seven kilometres. The FRIP team conducted a road inventory and traffic survey covering carriageway widths, footpaths, bus stops, U-turns, junctions, parking and encroachments to identify bottlenecks and conflict points.Cyberabad traffic police joint commissioner Sunpreet Singh directed officials to implement immediate, simple measures to improve pedestrian facilities and essential infrastructure. Officials from the relevant civic body assured support for junction improvements, footpaths, bus bays and other infrastructure.

A TGSRTC official said buses were already operating up to Waverock and assured that additional services would be deployed to strengthen public transport.

JCP Singh directed FRIP’s chief executive officer to conduct a detailed study, in coordination with TGSRTC, civic and traffic officials, focusing particularly on obstructions in the dedicated bus lane. The findings must be submitted immediately, identifying feasible and cost-effective short-term measures to ensure smooth bus operations and provide immediate relief from congestion.

Permanent facilities, including bus shelters, may be developed after assessing the trial run and operational feasibility of the proposed BRT system. The meeting was attended by traffic police officials, SCSC and FRIP representatives, civic engineers, TGSRTC officials and other departmental representatives.
