Cyberabad Traffic Police Nab 407 Drunk Drivers in Weekend Special Drive

Police warn of strict action, including jail up to 10 years, under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for fatal accidents caused by drunk driving

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted a special weekend drunk-and-drive enforcement drive, during which 407 offenders were apprehended across the commissionerate limits. Most of the violations involved two-wheelers, accounting for 290 cases, followed by 90 four-wheelers, 18 three-wheelers, and 9 heavy vehicles.

Based on Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels, 354 offenders were found with BAC ranging between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, 31 offenders between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, and 22 offenders recorded dangerously high levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. All offenders will be produced before the Hon’ble Court.

Cyberabad Police reiterated that drunk driving is a serious offence and warned that anyone causing a fatal accident while under the influence of alcohol will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years imprisonment along with a fine.

Meanwhile, during the last week from December 8 to December 13, 2025, a total of 385 drunk-and-drive cases were disposed of in courts. Of these, 16 persons were awarded fine along with jail terms, 21 persons were penalised with fine and social service, while 348 offenders were imposed fines only.
