Hyderabad: Cyberabad police on Monday launched measures aimed at ensuring smooth traffic movement and safeguarding residents in flood-prone areas, reviewing preparedness across the commissionerate and inspecting Himayatsagar for possible rain-related contingencies after authorities began releasing water from the reservoir on Sunday.
Cyberabad police commissioner Dr M. Ramesh chaired a review meeting with traffic officers and civic officials, directing them to proactively address waterlogging and traffic congestion during the rainy season. He instructed officials to continuously monitor vulnerable stretches, coordinate with civic agencies for quick clearance of inundated roads and prepare a comprehensive database of waterlogging hotspots to facilitate permanent solutions.
The commissioner also reviewed the deployment of around 150 Greyhounds and OCTOPUS personnel assisting in traffic regulation. Officials were instructed to take strict action against vehicles blocking free left turns and U-turns, crack down on wrong-side driving and install barricades wherever necessary. Progress of road works at Wipro and DLF junctions, Shapurnagar, Kukatpally Y-Junction, Miyapur and Nizampet was also reviewed, with directions issued to expedite the projects and ensure traffic diversion plans are implemented before road-cutting works.
Meanwhile, Rajendranagar DCP S. Srinivas inspected Himayatsagar and surrounding areas along with irrigation officials following the opening of reservoir gates. The DCP directed officials to identify vulnerable locations, install adequate barricading and remain on high alert to ensure the safety of residents living in the catchment areas and along the Outer Ring Road.
