Cyberabad Police Issue Advisory Highlighting Child’s Safety In Parked Cars

The police asked the people to always check their car before locking it

Hyderabad: In the wake of frequent incidents involving children getting trapped inside parked vehicles and losing their lives due to suffocation, the Cyberabad police urged citizens to take necessary steps to avoid such tragedies.

In an advisory, the police said these incidents were avoidable and asked the citizens to act responsibly to safeguard the children. The police asked the people to always check the car before locking. Before walking away, the drivers must inspect both the front and back seats and make it a habit to look before locking the car.

The police advised the vehicle owners not to leave children unattended in or around a vehicle, not even for a short time and keep car keys out of children's reach to prevent accidental access. The owners must educate children that cars are not safe places to play or hide and ensure that they understand never to enter a car alone.

The owners should double-check the car before locking ensuring no child or pet is left inside and they must also communicate clearly when multiple adults are traveling with a child, assign who is responsible and don’t assume someone else has taken the child out.

Priority must be accorded to lock the car when it’s parked, even at home and keeping keys away from children’s reach. Installing safety alerts such as rear seat reminders or child detection systems that notify if a child is left inside are essential.

“Avoid using black films or heavily tinted windows on car glass, as they reduce visibility and make it harder for others to notice if someone is trapped inside. Keep doors and windows closed and locked at all times when the vehicle is not in use,” the police said.

The owners must inform family members and domestic helpers about these safety practices and if a child goes missing, check inside the vehicle and nearby cars immediately. “Be alert to children playing near parked vehicles, especially during hot weather. Raise community awareness. Neighbours and bystanders should act immediately after seeing a child alone in a parked car and call emergency services without delay,” the police added.
