CSIR-IICT’s Dr Vineet Aniya Receives IEI Young Engineer Award for Environmentally Sustainable Technologies

Dr Aniya’s research focuses on the development of biodegradable and compostable polymers from renewable resources and the depolymerisation of waste plastics into value-added chemicals, supporting the circular economy.

Hyderabad: Dr Vineet Aniya, principal scientist in the chemical engineering and process technology (CE&PT) department at the city-based Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), has been conferred the Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI) Young Engineer Award for 2025.

Dr Aniya’s research focuses on the development of biodegradable and compostable polymers from renewable resources and the depolymerisation of waste plastics into value-added chemicals, supporting the circular economy. His team has transferred technologies for compostable carry bags, nanocellulose from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), bio-based sanitary pad pulp, and green plasticisers derived from PET waste. He has 50 research publications, six patents and three book chapters to his credit.

A recipient of several prestigious awards, Dr Aniya has previously been honoured with the INEA Young Associate Award (2024), PECFAR by IGSTC (2024), CII 3R Award (2023), Telangana State Innovation Award (2022), Young Scientist and Technologist Award by DST (2021), Amar Dye-Chem Award (2020), CSIR Technology Award (2018)and Ambuja Young Researcher’s Award (2015).

Dr Aniya is also a member of several professional bodies, including IEI, IIChE, FASSI and PPS.
