CSIR-IICT, VSSC Sign MoU for Fluorochemicals
CSIR-IICT and ISRO's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre have signed an MoU to jointly develop next-generation eco-friendly fluorochemical technology, aiming to reduce import dependence and support the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.

CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT), Hyderabad, and the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) of ISRO have signed an MoU to jointly develop next-generation environmentally sustainable blowing agent technology for strategic applications.
The collaboration will combine CSIR-IICT’s expertise in fluorochemical synthesis and process development with VSSC’s application-specific requirements and evaluation capabilities. Officials said the initiative would reduce dependence on imported specialty fluorochemicals while supporting the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.
CSIR-IICT Director Dr D. Srinivas Reddy, who led the delegation, said the partnership reflected synergy between a premier research laboratory and a strategic organisation in translating scientific innovation into technologies of national importance. VSSC Director Dr Rajeev UP described the collaboration as strategically important for developing indigenous technologies for national use.
Project leader Dr Punna Nagender said hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs), which have zero Ozone Depletion Potential and ultra-low Global Warming Potential, were emerging as the preferred replacement for conventional high-GWP blowing agents. He said the project would help India develop indigenous HFO technology, reduce import dependence and strengthen capabilities in advanced fluorochemicals.
