Telangana officials got information that CRPF officials of the state had got the instructions to come back to the headquarters, withdrawing security of the dam.

Nalgonda: The 234th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), headquartered in Visakhapatnam, took over security duties of the Nagarjunasagar dam, on Tuesday, triggering concern among the officials of the irrigation department in Telangana.

After bifurcation, special protection forces of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh looked after the security of the dam falling in the geographical areas of the respective states.
The security of the dam went into the hands of CRPF as per a decision of the Centre when clashes broke out between the SPF personnel of the two states in November 2023. Telangana and AP have withdrawn their SPF personnel, allowing the CRPF to take over the security of the dam.
Telangana officials got information that CRPF officials of the state had got the instructions to come back to the headquarters, withdrawing security of the dam. The state government reportedly instructed SPF officials to make 63 personnel ready to move to Nagarjunasagar for deployment if APSPF personnel were posted in place of CRPF of Vishakapatnam battalion.
Interestingly, officials of the CRPF battalion of Mulugu got the instructions on Tuesday morning to call back its personnel as the CPRF of Vishakapatnam battalion took over the security of the dam.
