HYDERABAD: The Sankranti travel rush continued for the second consecutive day on Sunday, with heavy crowds thronging bus stops and railway stations across the city. Secunderabad railway station, a key junction for passengers heading to their hometowns, remained packed as hundreds waited to board trains.
Long queues formed at ticket counters, security checks, and platforms from early morning. Many passengers carried gifts and traditional items for the festive celebrations.
Ramesh Kumar, travelling with his family to Samarlakota in Kakinada, said, “I was unable to go home for Diwali last year, and I’ve been waiting for Sankranti ever since. The trains will be crowded and messy, but I’ll be happy to celebrate with my parents.”
Vinod, bound for Tadepalligudem in West Godavari, added, “I had to fight an all-out war to get tickets. Bus fares surged, so I booked train tickets for myself and my friend.”
Additional staff were deployed to manage the crowds, while police personnel kept a close watch to regulate movement.
