Crime File: Three Held for Smuggling 273 kg Dry Ganja

The police intercepted the car and upon inspection, they discovered dry ganja in the vehicle. The contraband was being transported from Odisha to Haryana via Telangana.

Hyderabad: Based on a tip-off, the Shamirpet police, along with the Balanagar Special Operations Team (SOT), on Sunday arrested three persons for allegedly transporting 273 kg of dry ganja by hiding it in a vehicle carrying household items, near the Shamirpet ORR junction. Two others, including the main supplier and financier, are absconding.

The police intercepted the car and upon inspection, they discovered dry ganja in the vehicle. The contraband was being transported from Odisha to Haryana via Telangana.

According to the Shamirpet police, the arrested accused were identified as Pardeep Kumar; Haryana natives Sunny, a driver, and Manish Kumar. All are Bowenpally residents. Police said Sunny was previously booked at the Behal police station in Haryana and in Badshahpur.

The absconding accused have been identified as financier Sahil of Haryana, facing a 10-yaer prison sentence, and Subhash Biswas of Odisha, the main supplier.

According to police, Pardeep and Sahil travelled to Odisha on March 31, and finalised the deal by paying `1.3 lakh to Subhash. Sunny and Manish then reached Odisha with the vehicle on April 1. The ganja was loaded on April 5, and later, Sahil flew to Haryana on the same day to receive the consignment.

Cab driver dies by suicide

A 21-year-old cab driver died allegedly by suicide at his residence in Petbasheerabad. Assistant sub-inspector Maheshwar Reddy said the deceased, Maheshwaram Nagaraju, was residing in a room with a other drivers.

At around 6.30 pm, he returned to the room and died by suicide when they others were away. When they returned at around 8.30 pm and knocked on the door, they received no response.

They called the police, who shifted his body to the Gandhi mortuary for postmortem examination. “He was having arguments with his partner recently. His friends suspect that to be one of the reasons for the suicide,” the ASI said.

His parents, who came from Nalgonda on being informed, were handed over the body. A case was registered and further investigation into the incident is underway.

Man attacked by unknown assailants in Meerpet

A 35-year-old man was allegedly attacked by unknown assailants in Jillelaguda in Meerpet late on Saturday night. The victim, V. Vishnu, sustained injuries in the attack, said Meerpet sub-inspector K. Sudhakar.

Police were informed about the attack by a local, who spotted Vishnu lying on the road with bleeding injuries. The police shifted Vishnu to the Osmania Hospital for treatment and informed his family.

“We are examining CCTV cameras to identify the attackers. We suspect it to be a job of three to four persons. As of what we know now, Vishnu does not have any enmity with anyone,” the sub-inspector said. A case was registered for attempt to murder and further investigation into the incident is underway.

Cab driver arrested for blackmailing minor for sexual favour

The Ghatkesar police on Sunday arrested cab driver Suresh for allegedly secretly taking the picture of a minor girl and using it to blackmailing her for sexual favours. Ghatkesar inspector P. Parusharam said the incident came to light when the minor informed her parents.

The police said that the accused would often loiter around the victim’s college. On Saturday evening, he secretly clicked a picture of the victim while she was talking to a friend. When the victim spotted him doing so and confronted him, he reportedly blackmailed her, saying he would morph these pictures and upload them on social media.

To prevent him from doing so, the accused asked her to involve herself in sexual activity with him. Unable to bear this harassment, the victim informed her family about it, who then lodged a complaint.

The Ghatkesar police under the BNS and Pocso Act and produced the accused before a court which remanded him to judicial custody.
