Nalgonda: A tracker dog named Pinky, who served the police force for 12 years, died due to health complications at the District Police Headquarters in Nalgonda on Sunday.
Pinky, a German Shepherd, was trained in search and rescue at the Integrated Intelligence Training Academy in 2014 and won a gold medal for outstanding performance. Pinky’s handler was constable Nagaraju.
The dog played a crucial role in helping the district police crack several sensational cases and arrest accused persons. In one case, where a victim was chopped into pieces and the body parts were dumped at different locations under the limits of Nalgonda Town-I Police Station, Pinky helped identify the accused. Pinky also tracked down the culprits in a theft of ₹1.4 crore at Julakanti Indra Reddy Function Hall in Nalgonda within just 90 minutes, enabling police to arrest them swiftly. In another case at Vangala in Gundala mandal, Pinky traced the accused who had killed a man and dumped his body in an open well, a crime that came to light only after a week.
Superintendent of police Sharat Chandra Pawar expressed grief over the demise of the tracker dog and recalled its exemplary services to the force.
Pinky was given a farewell with full police honours at the District Police Headquarters. Additional superintendent of police Ramesh laid a wreath on Pinky’s body and paid his respects.
