Cricketer Moves HC Over Repeated Age Probe
Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka of the Telangana High Court admitted a writ plea of a young cricketer alleging persistent harassment by the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) over age-related issues, even after representing India in Under-19 tournaments

Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka of the Telangana High Court admitted a writ plea of a young cricketer alleging persistent harassment by the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) over age-related issues, even after representing India in Under-19 tournaments. The judge was dealing with a writ plea filed by Abhishek Murugan, contending that repeated enquiries by the HCA into his age and related documents were illegal and unconstitutional. The petitioner pointed out that clearance to participate in the Under-16 and Under-19 categories was through officially approved protocols. It was contended that the Tanner-Whitehouse (TW-3) Method, a bone age assessment technique that estimates skeletal maturity using X-rays of the left hand and wrist, was widely accepted for scientific accuracy and officially adopted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) through a resolution of May 2012. It was made mandatory across all affiliated State Cricket Associations, including the HCA, from September 2012. The petitioner argued that the current enquiry and the list of players flagged for alleged age discrepancies are contrary to the National Code Against Age Fraud in Sports and violate the spirit of the Code. It was also contended that the petitioner had already played Under-19 cricket but is continuously harassed by the authorities. The judge directed the Respondents to consider the representation of the petitioner and posted the matter after four weeks.
2. HC moved over BTech admission hurdles
Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High Court entertained a writ plea complaining that two engineering colleges were forcing aspirants to run from pillar to post for admission to B category seats for the BTech course for the 2025-26. The judge was hearing a writ plea filed by Remala Ramakrishna and his daughter Gagana, contending that Gokaraju Lailavathi Engineering College and BVRIT Hyderabad College of Engineering for Women failed to enable access to the application form, either online or offline, in violation of the guidelines issued by the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE). Counsel for the petitioner submitted that despite personal visits and repeated requests, the institutions refused to provide a physical application form, thereby denying the petitioner a fair opportunity for admission. It was argued that the TGCHE guidelines expressly permit both online and offline application modes for B Category (Management Quota) admissions. The government pleader supported the case of the petitioner that the petitioner was indeed entitled to an offline application form. The judge directed the colleges to forward the application to TSCHE and Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering and Technology for further action.
3. Social worker accuses police of abuse
Justice K. Lakshman of the Telangana High Court took on file a writ plea challenging the alleged illegal confinement and custodial torture of a city-based social worker at Filmnagar police station. The judge was hearing a writ plea filed by K. Raghava Reddy, who alleged that he was unlawfully detained and subjected to custodial violence by police officers in July and August 2025. The petitioner alleged that despite suffering serious burns and bleeding wounds during an assault by certain individuals, the police failed to provide him with medical treatment. He contended that the acts of omission and commission by the police personnel, particularly those of the sub-inspectors of Filmnagar police station, amounted to gross abuse of authority and a violation of his fundamental rights. The petitioner also sought registration of a criminal case against Narsimha Reddy and others who allegedly carried out the assault. The judge accordingly ordered notice to the authorities and directed them to file a response.
