Crack Down On Illegal Sand Transport And Mining: CS Sanjay Jaju To Officials

Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju on Monday directed officials to take stringent measures to curb illegal sand transportation, unauthorised mining and illegal movement of minerals, and to identify vulnerable areas and conduct regular inspections.

Reviewing the functioning of the mines and geology department at the Secretariat, Jaju instructed officials to conduct surprise inspections and raids with vigilance teams. He directed officials — including mines and geology secretary M. Raghunandan Rao, Director General (vigilance and enforcement) D.S. Chauhan and mines director Anudeep Durishetty —

to respond promptly to complaints of illegal sand transportation and mining and initiate legal action against the violators.

He directed officials to take steps to make the mines and geology department more efficient and improve service delivery while enhancing government revenue through better utilisation of mineral resources. Jaju reviewed the department’s performance, administrative issues, revenue mobilisation, recruitment and promotions. He asked officials to expedite the filling of vacant posts and the process of employee promotions as per rules, and take measures to ensure that staff shortages did not hamper the department’s functioning.
