Cotton: Commercial Operations To Start In Adilabad Market Yard From Oct 22
Agriculture labourers are already engaged in cotton picking in areas like the Bela, Jainad and Adilabad rural mandals in Adilabad district: Reports

ADILABAD: District officials would start the commercial operations for cotton at Adilabad Market from October 22. The agriculture department expects the first cotton pickings of the Kharif season in the Adilabad district to start by that time.
Agriculture labourers are already engaged in cotton picking in areas like the Bela, Jainad and Adilabad rural mandals in Adilabad district. The crop has grown to full level and has developed bolls in the black soils in several mandals, unlike the cotton raised in red soils. The central government has announced an MSP of `8667 per quintal for high-quality cotton.
The Adilabad district agriculture department is expecting an arrival of 52.07 lakh quintals at an average of 11.90 quintals per acre, while cotton was cultivated in 4,37,698 acres for 2026-27 in Adilabad district.
The cotton yield may not be high as expected since the ground situation is not reflecting the agriculture department's expectations.
However, farmers may not bring the huge cotton produce to the market yard to sell this in the initial days since it takes more days for the cotton bolls to emerge.
Farmers say the yield may increase if there is one or two spells of rain in this critical time, as cotton plants are getting withered due to prolonged dry spell and lack of moisture in the soil.
The moisture in the black soil following rains has helped the cotton plants to grow, unlike in the red soil.
Chairman of the Adilabad market committee, B Srikanth Reddy, said they were making arrangements to launch cotton commercial operations from October 22 and added that farmers have to book their slots to sell their cotton through the Kapas Kisan app.
The commercial operations would start at 10am. CCI and district officials would take part in it.
There are a total of 14 cotton ginning factories. Among them, 11 are ready to procure cotton from farmers from October 22. The remaining have to get permission for cotton procurement. Farmers can book their slots from now onwards.
Farmers are advised to take turns towards Adilabad market yard from the Rampur bypass following the road repairs.
