Hyderabad Cops To Adopt ‘Zero Drugs Policy’ for New Year
Multi-layered crackdown, 1 am curfew for pubs, strict action against violators

Hyderabad: With New Year’s Eve approaching, Hyderabad police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar announced a strict ‘zero drugs policy’ to ensure a drug-free environment for citizens, unveiling a multi-layered enforcement plan.
The plan involves the deploying of Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), Task Force, Special Branch, and local police to ensure there is no movement of narcotics. Surveillance teams have been deployed at pubs, hotels, restaurants, and event venues, with continuous monitoring of individuals previously involved in drug-related offenses over the past two years.
Officials have been tasked with preparing a comprehensive list of known drug peddlers and consumers, while police will also track individuals entering the city for the festivities. The crackdown extends to private gatherings at service apartments and hostels to prevent illicit activities.
The police have set a 1 a.m. closing time for all New Year celebrations at pubs, hotels, and restaurants. “Strict action will be taken against violators. Licences will be cancelled immediately if illegal activities are found,” the commissioner warned.
Checkposts and barricades will be fortified at major hubs, including Maitrivanam, Necklace Road, Tank Bund, and KBR Park. While security will be intense, Sajjanar emphasised that the public should not be inconvenienced. Officers have been instructed to act as facilitators to ensure peaceful celebrations.
“Our resolve is that not a single drug case should be reported in Hyderabad during these celebrations. Special forces are being deployed to achieve this. Every officer must work in coordination to uphold the prestige of the city police,” Sajjanar said.
