Cooler Weather Cuts Power Demand in Telangana

Hyderabad: With a major dip in temperature, the power demand has decreased by 25 million units in the peak summer, in comparison to the last week of April. As a result, the power purchase by the state’s power utilities has declined, saving up to `15 crore per day. The cooler weather has benefited the state by over `100 crore in the last two weeks.
The state registered 199.296 million units of power consumption on May 7, 2025, compared to 223.95 million units same day last year. Accordingly, the power purchase from central stations has come down to 62.792 million units (MU), against 88.251 MU on the same day last year.
The lowest demand in recent days was recorded on May 4 at 197.377 MU against 232.718 MU same day last year. Power purchase and supply from the central stations May 4 was reduced by 33.775 MU; with 57.763 MU purchased against 91.538 MU same day last year.
