HYDERABAD: Contract teachers across Telangana’s 12 state universities demanded regularisation of their services, Seventh PRC/UGC pay scales and job security until absorption at an all-party meeting here on Friday. They also sought a decision on these demands before the government proceeds with fresh recruitment.
The meeting was organised by the University Teachers’ Association (Contract), Telangana State (UTACTS). Rajya Sabha member R. Krishnaiah assured the teachers that he would raise their concerns with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He pointed out that several states had regularised the services of contract teachers and said Telangana should follow suit.
MLC Prof. Kodandaram also agreed to take up the matter with the state government. Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao extended his party’s support and said he would approach the Centre if necessary. TPCC spokesperson Indira Shobhan assured the association that she would raise the demands with the state government, while CPM leader V. Bhupal expressed his party’s support for the teachers.
The meeting unanimously resolved to press the government for the 7th PRC/UGC pay scales and job security until absorption. The association said these issues should be addressed before fresh recruitment begins.
