Congress Wins Two-thirds of Sarpanch Posts
BRS wins 27% posts, BJP gets 4.37%

The Congress on Friday claimed a sweeping lead in the first phase of the gram panchayat elections, with the victory of 2,864 Congress-backed candidates in the sarpanch elections.
According to the ruling party’s district-wise compilation report released on Friday, Congress-supported candidates won 67.63 per cent of the total 4,235 sarpanch seats. BRS-backed candidates won 1,143 seats (26.99 per cent), BJP-supported candidates bagged 185 seats (4.37 per cent), while independents and others accounted for 43 seats (1.02 per cent).
Vote-counting began soon after polling concluded at 1 pm on Thursday and continued through the early hours of Friday. The data indicated that the Congress won a majority of seats in all 31 districts that went to the polls, placing the BRS and BJP at distant second and third positions, respectively.
In Adilabad, the Congress clinched 120 of 166 seats, followed by the BRS with 37 and the BJP with 9. In Bhadradri Kothagudem, the ruling party won 120 of 159 seats, the BRS got 37, and others got 17 seats. The Hanamkonda district results saw the Congress winning 39 of 69 seats, the BRS 20, and the BJP 10.
The Congress captured 72 of the 122 seats in Jagtial, while the BRS won 37 and the BJP 13. In Jangaon, the party won 81 of 110 seats, leaving 28 to BRS and one to BJP.
Jayashankar Bhupalpally recorded 59 victories for the Congress, 21 for the BRS and two for the BJP. Jogulamba Gadwal saw the Congress sweep 88 of 106 seats, with the BRS taking eight and the BJP 10.
Kamareddy reported the Congress winning 100 out of 167 seats, while the BRS secured 44 and the BJP 23. In Karimnagar, the party won 60 of 92 seats; in Khammam, it won 145 of 192, with the BRS capturing 38 and nine seats going to others. Congress-backed nominees also led in Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mahbubabad, Mahbubnagar, Mancherial and Medak, securing decisive margins over its rivals.
The party maintained dominance in Mulugu with 37 of 48 seats, and in Nagarkurnool with 95 of 151 seats. Nalgonda reported one of the biggest wins for the Congress-supported candidates with 231 of 318 seats. They swept Narayanpet with 55 of 67 seats, and Nirmal with 98 of 136. In Nizamabad, the party-backed candidates won 153 seats, while the BRS and the BJP won 15 and 16, respectively.
Peddapalli recorded 74 Congress wins; Rajanna Sircilla 47; Rangareddy 103; and Sangareddy 80 seats, along with nine seats secured by others. Siddipet saw Congress take 87 of 163 seats. In Suryapet, the party won 102 of 159 seats.
Congress-supported candidates continued their strong showing in Vikarabad with 189 wins out of 262 seats, and in Wanaparthy, where they won 51 of 87. In Warangal Rural, they secured 66 of 91 seats. In Yadadri Bhongir, the ruling party won 94 of 153 seats, while BRS took 53 and BJP 3, with three going to others.
