Hung verdict in four municipalities

WARANGAL: The Congress secured a clear majority in seven of the 12 municipalities in the erstwhile Warangal district in the municipal elections, emerging as the single largest force in the region.

The party won Mulugu and Station Ghanpur, besides securing victories in Dornakal, Maripeda, Narsampet, Parakal and Bhupalpally. The results produced a hung verdict in Jangaon, Mahbubabad, Kesamudram and Wardhannapet.

In Station Ghanpur, Congress won 13 of the 18 wards, reducing the BRS to three wards (4, 5 and 6). In Dornakal, Congress secured 11 of the 15 wards. In Maripeda, Congress won eight wards, while the BRS secured six and an Independent won one. The BRS retained control of Thorrur by winning nine of the 16 wards.

In Jangaon (30 wards), the BRS emerged as the single largest party with 13 seats, followed by Congress with 12. The CPM won one seat and four seats went to Independents. The four Independents hold the balance of power. Parties shifted their elected members to camps under police security amid efforts to secure support for the chairman post.

In Mahbubabad (36 wards), the BRS won 13 seats and Congress secured 12. The CPM and CPI won three seats each, while four seats went to Independents. The Left parties and Independents are expected to play a decisive role in the election of the chairman.

In Kesamudram (16 wards), Congress and BRS won eight seats each, resulting in a tie. In Wardhannapet, the BRS won six seats and Congress five, with one Independent. The Independent has extended support to Congress, resulting in a 6-6 position.

The administration of oaths and the election of chairmen and vice-chairmen are scheduled for February 16, with both parties closely monitoring their elected members ahead of the final voting process.
