Congress Will Win Over 100 Seats Whenever Polls Are Held: TPCC Chief

Expressing confidence that the Congress would further strengthen its position with public support

Hanamkonda: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Monday expressed confidence that the Congress would secure no fewer than 100 seats whenever Assembly elections are held, citing public support for the government’s welfare and development programmes.

Addressing a media conference at the party office in Hanumakonda, he said the party was strengthening its position across the state as people were responding positively to its initiatives. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Warangal West MLA Naini Rajender Reddy, MLC K.R. Nagaraju, Hanumakonda DCC president Venkatram Reddy, MLCs Ayub Khan and Shankar Naik, among others, were present.

Referring to remarks by leaders from other states, he said such interventions in Telangana’s political affairs were unnecessary. While acknowledging Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and actor Chiranjeevi for their contributions to cinema, he said there was no need for them to comment on Telangana politics and added that people were aware of Pawan Kalyan’s stand during the Telangana movement.

Criticising the BRS, he alleged that the party had lost relevance and was facing internal issues. He questioned if welfare measures such as free bus travel for women, waiver of ₹23,000 crore in farm loans and distribution of fine rice were being portrayed as scams.

He also asked the BRS leadership to explain its record in raising issues related to Telangana’s share of funds, coal and water with the Centre during its tenure, adding that constructive criticism was acceptable but baseless allegations were not.

Targeting the BJP, he questioned its performance during its 12 years in power at the Centre and sought answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on price rise, cooking gas costs and unemployment. He also referred to the promise of creating two crore jobs.

He suggested that BJP leaders writing letters to Rahul Gandhi should instead seek an appointment with the Prime Minister and raise issues such as inflation and unemployment. He further alleged that the Centre had failed in conducting the NEET examination, causing hardship to students and parents.

On criticism of the state’s sand policy, he said no new policy had been introduced and alleged that illegal sand activity had flourished during the previous regime, adding that former minister Harish Rao was aware of the issue.

Accepting a challenge from BJP leaders, he said the Congress was ready for a public debate in Warangal on the Centre’s development record over the past 12 years and the state government’s performance over the last three years.

Referring to HYDRAA’s action against illegal constructions, he said encroachments on water bodies would lead to losses during natural calamities and maintained that those affected were land encroachers.

He urged people to avoid misinformation on social media and said the state was making progress across sectors, expressing confidence that the Congress would further strengthen its position with public support.
