Congress Wave Will Continue In Municipal, ZPTC, MPTC Elections: Ponguleti
Srinivas Reddy said the victory of Congress-backed candidates in the gram panchayat elections once again proved public support for the State government: Reports

NALGONDA: Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Wednesday expressed confidence that the Congress wave would continue in the upcoming municipal, ZPTC and MPTC elections, as reflected in the recently held gram panchayat polls.
He was speaking at a meeting held at S.R. Gardens on Wyra Road in Khammam to felicitate newly elected sarpanches and ward members supported by the Congress from the Palair Assembly constituency.
Srinivas Reddy said the victory of Congress-backed candidates in the gram panchayat elections once again proved public support for the State government. He stated that over 70 per cent of the sarpanches and ward members in 134 gram panchayats of the Palair constituency were supported by the Congress. In the remaining panchayats, Congress-backed candidates lost mainly due to internal differences and rebel contestants. Candidates supported by the BRS, which ruled the State for 10 years, won only a handful of seats, he added.
The minister said the election results clearly indicated that the people of Telangana stood firmly with the Congress government and that the same support would be reflected in the forthcoming municipal, ZPTC and MPTC elections as well.
Criticising the attitude of BRS leaders even after electoral defeat, he said the previous BRS government functioned with illusions of welfare and development, ignoring ground realities. He asserted that the Congress government does not indulge in vindictive politics and that time would teach a lesson to BRS leaders whose arrogance persisted even after losing power.
He urged party leaders to maintain close contact with the people and undertake door-to-door campaigns to spread awareness about welfare schemes being implemented by the Congress government.
Srinivas Reddy said that despite the lack of financial assistance from the Centre, the State government had launched the Indiramma housing scheme and sanctioned 3,500 houses for each Assembly constituency, involving an expenditure of ₹22,500 crore. He said visible development had taken place in villages over the past two years, with works such as CC roads, drainage, BT roads and other infrastructure.
He also noted that Telangana was the first State in the country to supply fine rice to ration card holders.
Khammam MP Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy said elected sarpanches should live up to the faith reposed in them by the people and ensure that welfare scheme benefits reach every eligible family. He assured full cooperation for the development of the Palair Assembly constituency.
District Congress Committee president Nuthi Satyanarayana and other party leaders were present at the meeting.
