Congress Sharpens Focus On SIR Across Undivided Warangal Ahead Of Civic Polls

WARANGAL: With the Warangal, Hyderabad and Khammam municipal corporation elections expected in the coming months, the Congress has intensified its focus on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The state’s ruling party is treating the civic polls as a political semi-final ahead of the next assembly elections.

Having completed half the term, and a little more than two years is left before the nextt polls, the Congress high command has directed district leaders to ensure that not a single eligible voter is left out of the electoral rolls.

Viewing undivided Warangal as one of Telangana's most politically significant regions, the party has deployed ministers, public representatives, district leaders and grassroots workers to conduct door-to-door voter verification and assist people with the digitisation process.

According to party sources, a recent review meeting in New Delhi, attended by AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud and chief minister A Revanth Reddy, assessed the progress of the SIR district-wise. Leaders were told to ensure that voters from poor and weaker sections, considered traditional Congress supporters, are not omitted from the rolls.

The leadership has directed district units to independently monitor the exercise instead of relying solely on official reports, while warning that negligence would invite accountability.

Congress workers are now actively touring all 12 assembly constituencies in the undivided Warangal region, including Warangal city, Hanumakonda, Kazipet and rural areas, helping voters complete verification, submit forms and resolve documentation issues.

District Congress president Inagala Venkat Ramireddy said the party cadre was working relentlessly to ensure that every eligible voter is included in the electoral rolls before the revision process concludes.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has also stepped up its campaign to protect its voter base. The party has established voter assistance help desks in several localities across Warangal, Hanumakonda and Kazipet, where workers are guiding voters through the SIR process, assisting them in filling out forms and creating awareness about the documentation required.

The BJP, however, appears to be adopting a restrained approach. The party is confident that the ongoing voter revision exercise will work in its favour and has therefore not matched the extensive field mobilisation seen by the Congress and the BRS.

Even so, both the Congress and the BRS are maintaining close vigil over the process to ensure that no irregularities or disputes arise during the revision exercise.

Official figures available as of July 28 show mixed progress across the region. Parkal assembly constituency has achieved 100 per cent digitisation of 2,22,679 voters across seven mandals, with 91.42 per cent enumeration forms (EFs) and 8.58 per cent updated forms (UEFs) processed, leaving no pending records.

In Hanamkonda West, however, 24,304 voter records are still pending. Of the total 2,86,335 voters, digitisation has covered 91.51 per cent. Mandal-wise progress stands at 89.98 per cent in Hanamkonda, 96.85 per cent in Warangal and 95.51 per cent in Kazipet.

Across the Hanumakonda parliamentary constituency, 95.23 per cent of the 5,09,014 voters has been digitised, with officials and political parties focusing on clearing the remaining backlog. Digitisation in Jangaon and Palakurthi constituencies has also crossed the 85–90 per cent mark.

While the SIR exercise has recorded substantial progress across the undivided Warangal region, political parties are expected to intensify their efforts in the final.
