Congress Seeks Naming Of Korata–Chanaka Barrage After Ramchandra Reddy
Veteran Congress leader and former minister C. Ramchandra Reddy had been at the forefront of the movement demanding construction of the Penganga irrigation project for nearly a decade from 2004: Reports

ADILABAD: Congress leaders from Adilabad district have urged the state government to name the Korata-Chanaka barrage after former minister late C. Ramchandra Reddy.
The leaders submitted a representation to district in-charge minister Jupally Krishna Rao, who forwarded the request to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for consideration. According to party sources, the Chief Minister is likely to visit Nirmal shortly to inaugurate the Sadarmat barrage and distribute compensation cheques to landowners whose land was acquired for the Korata-Chanaka canals and reservoir.
The Korata-Chanaka barrage, constructed across the Penganga River on the inter-state border, is designed to provide irrigation water to about 50,000 acres in the Adilabad and Boath Assembly constituencies. Veteran Congress leader and former minister C. Ramchandra Reddy had been at the forefront of the movement demanding construction of the Penganga irrigation project for nearly a decade from 2004. The project was considered his dream initiative, aimed at benefiting farmers in both Telangana and Maharashtra.
If the proposal receives approval, the state government is expected to name the Korata-Chanaka barrage after Ramchandra Reddy.
Local Congress leaders recalled that Ramchandra Reddy made sustained efforts for the project with the support of then Congress MLAs and ministers Shivajirao Ramji Moghe and Wamanrao Bapurao Kasawar when the Congress was in power in both Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
A four-time MLA and a two-time minister, Ramchandra Reddy played a crucial role in coordinating with Congress MLAs and ministers from the Yavatmal region, with whom he shared cordial relations, to push forward the Penganga irrigation project for the benefit of farmers on both sides of the river.
Adilabad District Congress Committee president Naresh Jadhav said naming the barrage after Ramchandra Reddy would be a fitting tribute and would ensure his contributions to Adilabad district and the state are remembered.
