Congress Politicising Urea Issue: Ramchander

Rao strongly criticized what he termed as “false propaganda” by the Congress government

HYDERABAD: BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao accused the Congress-led state government of deliberately stoking fears over a so-called urea shortage for political mileage ahead of the panchayat elections. He asserted that the Central government had, in fact, supplied 12.02 lakh metric tonnes of neem-coated urea, far exceeding the state’s required 9.5 lakh metric tonnes for the Rabi season.

Speaking at the Kisan Morcha state office bearers’ meeting at BJP headquarters, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Bhavan, Ramchander Rao strongly criticized what he termed as “false propaganda” by the Congress government. He alleged that the state administration was spreading misinformation about the Centre’s role in urea supply to cover up its own failure, most notably, the Congress’s unfulfilled promise of an additional ₹500 per quintal bonus for 14 crops.

Ramchander Rao contrasted the BJP-led Centre’s track record with that of the state government, pointing to a series of welfare measures for farmers, including PM Kisan Samman Nidhi for direct financial assistance, soil health cards to encourage better farming practices, Fasal Bima Yojana for all-India crop insurance and Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) to expand irrigation infrastructure.

He expressed disappointment that neither the previous BRS administration nor the current Congress government had implemented the national crop insurance scheme - Fasal Bima Yojana in Telangana.

Urging Kisan Morcha activists to counter misinformation at the grassroots, the BJP president blamed the Congress government for failing to address farmers’ issues even after 19 months in office, which, he claimed, has aggravated farmer distress and suicides.

He also cited chronic problems with the ‘Rythu Bharosa’ scheme, a lack of transparency and frequent glitches in the state’s Dharani land records portal, which have forced many farmers to make repeated trips to registration and revenue offices.

Ramchander Rao noted that it was only after rebuke from the High Court that the government disbursed `6,000 per farmer under Rythu Bharosa and agreed to hold panchayat polls by September as ordered by the court.

The meeting also marked the induction of MRPS state core committee member Daida Ravi from Miryalaguda into the BJP. The session was chaired by Kisan Morcha state president Kondapalli Sridhar Reddy and saw attendance from state general secretary Gujjula Premender Reddy, Kisan Morcha National executive member Goli Madhusudhan Reddy and several state- and district-level office bearers.
