Congress Leaders' Bus Attacked With Stones In Kamareddy

Al Hajiri said he had cancelled his flight ticket from New Delhi to Hyderabad to travel by bus with party leaders.

KAMAREDDY: Unidentified persons allegedly pelted stones at a private travel bus carrying Congress leaders near Tekrial bridge on NH-44 in Kamareddy district on Wednesday night, damaging a window on the left side of the vehicle. No one was injured.

The bus was carrying Karwan Assembly constituency in-charge Osman Bin Mohammad Al Hajri and 34 other Congress leaders from New Delhi to Hyderabad after they attended the Desh Bachao March at Ram Leela Maidan.

The driver stopped the damaged bus on NH-44, and the passengers lodged a complaint at Devunipally police station. They also alerted the police through Dial 100. The driver’s alertness helped avert a major accident, according to the passengers.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Al Hajri alleged that unidentified persons had tried to kill them by pelting stones at the bus near Tekrial bridge. He urged the police to examine CCTV footage from the area and identify those responsible.

“Being Army trainer, I am not afraid of death, but innocent party activists targeted by the attackers,” he said.

Al Hajiri said he had cancelled his flight ticket from New Delhi to Hyderabad to travel by bus with party leaders. He added that the stone-pelting had caused panic among passengers and that the incident could have led to a major accident if the stones had hit the driver.

Devunipally police registered a case and began an investigation. The passengers returned to Hyderabad on Thursday.

Kamareddy DSP, S. Madhusudan, told Deccan Chronicle that no one was injured. “We are verifying the details whether attackers pelted stones or the windows damaged due to technical reasons,” he said.
