Congress Infighting Hits Housing Beneficiaries
Sanjay Kumar defended the clearances as essential for development and warned against politicising them. Their rivalry has left vulnerable residents caught between competing leaders, hindering the Indiramma scheme’s rollout just ahead of local body elections.

Karimnagar: Tensions have flared in Jagtial Congress over the demolition of partially built homes in Nukapally Urban Colony, pitting former minister T. Jeevan Reddy against MLA Dr S. Sanjay Kumar.
In 2008, under Jeevan Reddy’s ministry, 400 poor families were allotted 70-square-yard plots; many built homes, but others left construction incomplete.
The BRS government later tore down roughly 1,500 of these unfinished Indiramma houses to build double-bedroom units, promising to re-allot original beneficiaries, a promise left unfulfilled.
After the new Congress administration took office, Jeevan Reddy petitioned the Chief Minister for Rs 52 crore to complete the remaining 1,611 homes. Instead, municipal officials recently demolished some of those houses to clear land for a bus stand, school, and hospital, actions Jeevan Reddy decried as unannounced.
Sanjay Kumar defended the clearances as essential for development and warned against politicising them. Their rivalry has left vulnerable residents caught between competing leaders, hindering the Indiramma scheme’s rollout just ahead of local body elections.
