Congress Holds Vote Chor-Gaddi Chhod Candlelight Rallies in Districts

Bhatti emphasised that protecting democracy in this country means protecting the right to vote and safeguarding the Indian Constitution.

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress organised candlelight rallies in all district headquarters on Thursday as part of its ‘Vote Chor-Gaddi Chhod’ campaign against BJP’s alleged “Vote Chori” (vote theft) in the 2024 general elections. Ministers, Congress MLAs, MLCs and MPs along with local leaders and party activists took part in the rallies. Congress leaders condemned filing of police cases against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi merely for pointing out irregularities in the voter list and demanded that a soft copy of the voter list be made available to the public.

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu led rally in Khammam district headquarters and Khairatabad DCC president C. Rohin Reddy led the rally at Necklace Road in the city. Bhatti stated that Rahul Gandhi had demanded a thorough investigation into the voter list, which showed living people as dead and existing voters as nonexistent. To explain the facts regarding the Election Commission’s conduct and the attitude of the central government, candle rallies are being held across the country, the Deputy CM said.

He emphasised that protecting democracy in this country means protecting the right to vote and safeguarding the Indian Constitution. Today, the BJP coalition ruling the country is, in one way or another, trying to pierce holes in the Constitution and bring dictatorship into the nation, he alleged.

Rohin Reddy accused the BJP’s style of governance of being an attack on democracy, and that the Election Commission — an institution meant to act independently with constitutional autonomy — has surrendered to the BJP at the Centre and is not revealing the facts. Rohin Reddy called upon every citizen of the country to come forward to protect democracy, stating that the candle rally was being organized precisely for that purpose.

Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi led the rally in Gadwal district headquarters. Ravi alleged BJP-Election Commission nexus in deletion of large chunk of voters from the list to benefit BJP in elections.

Vikarabad DCC president and Parigi MLA T. Rammohan Reddy led the rally in Vikarabad district headquarters. Reddy alleged that BJP came to power for the third time at the Centre by resorting to irregularities in the voters’ list.
