WARANGAL: Despite financial constraints, the Congress government is successfully implementing welfare schemes worth thousands of crores without burdening the public and will soon roll out several new initiatives, said Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. He was addressing a public meeting at Lakshmi Narasimhapuram in Yellandu constituency of Mahabubabad district on Tuesday.
He questioned why the previous BRS government had failed to introduce similar welfare programmes during its decade in power if it truly cared for the people. “They looted public wealth and had little interest in schemes like those the Congress is implementing today for all sections of society,” he alleged.
Recalling the Congress tenure, Bhatti said that tribal farmers were given land rights under the Forest Rights Act, but when they tried to cultivate their lands, the BRS government assaulted them. “Tribal women were tied to trees and beaten,” he recalled.
To restore confidence among tribal farmers, the Congress government will launch the Indira Solar Giri Water Development Scheme on May 18 at Chenchu Colony in Achampet, Nagarkurnool district. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will inaugurate the Rs 12,500 crore project, which will provide each tribal farmer with a solar-powered pump-set, sprinkler system and free saplings such as avocado and oil palm.
Bhatti said that when Sonia Gandhi fulfilled the long-cherished dream of Telangana statehood, people hoped for a better future. “But the BRS government turned a surplus state into a debt-ridden one with Rs 7 lakh crore liabilities and failed to honour its promises,” he said.
He further said that despite borrowing Rs 7 lakh crore, the KCR-led government did not construct any major industry or irrigation project comparable to Nagarjuna Sagar or SRSP, and instead drove the state into a financial crisis by misusing public funds.
He asserted that under the leadership of Revanth Reddy, the entire cabinet is working tirelessly for the state's progress. “We will grant Indiramma houses on a large scale in tribal areas, while the KCR government failed to sanction even one double-bedroom house in 10 years,” he said.
Bhatti also highlighted that the Congress government has conducted recruitment examinations and filled 57,000 government jobs in just one and a half years, with another 30,000 vacancies soon to be filled. “The BRS regime couldn’t even conduct a single Group-1 exam in a decade,” he pointed out.
To support five lakh unemployed youth, the Congress government has launched the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam self-employment scheme with an outlay of `9,000 crore. Sanction letters will be distributed on June 2, Telangana Formation Day. “KCR never cared about the unemployed in his 10-year tenure,” he alleged.
Despite financial hardships, the Congress government spent Rs 13,000 crore to provide six kg of fine rice per month to 90 lakh families and waived farm loans up to `2 lakh. “In contrast, the BRS government couldn’t even fulfil its promise of waiving Rs 1 lakh farm loans,” he added.
