Congress Confident of Victory in Municipal Elections

Party upbeat as nine urban local bodies, including new municipalities, go to polls

Nizamabad: Congress leaders are confident of performing well in the upcoming municipal elections in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts, where polls will be held for nine urban local bodies. Party leaders are optimistic about victory in municipalities including Nizamabad, Bodhan, Armoor, Kamareddy, Bheemgal, Banswada and Yellareddy. The district leadership has begun making arrangements for the elections.

For the first time, several rural areas that were earlier gram panchayats have been upgraded to municipalities in the two districts. The state government converted these gram panchayats into municipalities with the aim of accelerating urban development. As a result, elections to the posts of municipal chairpersons and councillors will be held for the first time in these areas. The district administration is making preparations for the smooth conduct of the elections.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, District Congress Committee president K. Nagesh Reddy said eligible leaders would be given tickets to contest the municipal elections. He said the Congress will give equal importance to both rural and urban areas. The party high command is focused on securing victory in the municipal polls, he added, expressing confidence that people would support the ruling Congress for the development of towns.
