Congress BC Leaders Credit Rahul for Caste Survey
BC leaders declared plans to hold massive rallies across all states to express their gratitude to Rahul Gandhi.

Hyderabad: Congress leaders from the Backward Class (BC) community in Telangana have credited AICC leader Rahul Gandhi for the Central government’s decision to conduct a national caste census as part of the upcoming population census. The announcement, they said, was the result of persistent efforts by Rahul Gandhi, particularly during his Bharat Jodo Yatra.
A delegation of Telangana Congress leaders from the BC community, including ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Konda Surekha, along with party MPs, MLAs, and MLCs, participated in the Congress BC conclave held in Delhi on Monday. The meeting focused on the national caste census and the party’s strategy moving forward. Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chiefs and Congress legislators from all the states participated in the conclave.
The BC leaders declared plans to hold massive rallies across all states to express their gratitude to Rahul Gandhi for championing the cause of caste census, which they say forced the BJP-led government at the Centre to act on the issue.
Minister Prabhakar made a detailed presentation on the caste census, which was successfully undertaken by the Congress government in Telangana. He noted that Rahul Gandhi had promised to conduct the caste census in Telangana if Congress came to power in the 2023 Assembly elections, a promise fulfilled within a year.
Prabhakar pointed out that the Telangana Assembly passed a bill enhancing reservations for people belonging to the BC community to 42 per cent in education, employment and local bodies. The Bill was referred to the Centre for approval in March 2024 and remains pending.
“I urge all BC unions and political parties to support the bill passed by the Telangana Assembly and exert pressure on the Centre to grant its approval,” Prabhakar said.
The Congress BC leaders said that the upcoming rallies will mobilise lakhs of supporters in each state to highlight the importance of the caste census and reinforce the demand for increased BC representation.
