KARIMNAGAR: The first day of Maoist Martyrs’ Week witnessed unusual developments, with conflicting posters and banners appearing in villages along the Godavari River in Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts on Monday.

While some wall posters appeared critical of the Maoist party, others, reportedly put up by the Maoists, called for the successful observance of Martyrs' Week.

A group identifying itself as the ‘Jayashankar Bhupalpally District Maoist Atma Parirakshana Praja Front’ released pamphlets in several villages, including Mukunuru, Neelampally, Burugu Gudem, and Sarvaipeta in Palimela mandal, openly challenging Maoist leadership.

The pamphlets questioned the current relevance of Maoist ideology, stating that the ideals once seen as a beacon of hope for the common people have now lost their purpose. The group urged senior Maoist leaders to abandon outdated ideologies, join the mainstream, and contribute their intellect toward the upliftment of marginalised communities.

Meanwhile, Maoist banners were found on a main road near Kothagudem in Cherla mandal, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, calling for a grand observance of Martyrs’ Week from July 28 to August 3. They also urged people to oppose 'Operation Kagar' by launching mass movements. Police later removed these banners and pamphlets.

Security has been heightened in the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border areas, especially following the recent deaths of key Maoist Central Committee members, including secretary Namballa Keshav Rao, alias Basavaraj, in encounters.
