Hyderabad: Residents from colony welfare associations organised rallies on Sunday in support for HYDRAA and the government's efforts to protect lakes and government land.

The demonstrations were held in Madhuranagar, Srinivasanagar and Ameerpet on Sunday. Members of welfare associations from West Srinivasanagar, Vengalraonagar, Madhuranagar, Motinagar, Rajivnagar, Siddharthanagar, Sai Saradhinagar, Jayaprakashnagar and Engineers Colony took part in the rallies and raised slogans in support of the government and HYDRAA.

The residents said protecting the city’s lakes was important to reduce flooding during heavy rain, and welcomed the government's decision to entrust HYDRAA with safeguarding water bodies and government land. They also criticised what they described as negative campaigns against HYDRAA on social media and said they had sent videos and messages expressing their support to the agency.

Several residents said the flood mitigation works carried out in Ameerpet and nearby areas had helped reduce waterlogging during the recent spell of rain. They also referred to lake restoration works in different parts of the city and said these projects had improved local conditions.

The welfare associations demanded that HYDRAA's work should continue. They also voiced support for commissioner A.V. Ranganath, and said they would continue to back initiatives aimed at protecting Hyderabad's environment and preventing floods.
