Collector Warns Millers Against Delays in Procurement

The Collector also instructed officials to set up check-posts at Dindi and Avantipuram to prevent the inflow of paddy from other districts

Nalgonda: District collector Badugu Chandrasekhar on Tuesday said that 4.1 lakh metric tonnes of paddy have been procured from farmers so far.

Amid reports of delays in unloading paddy at rice mills, the collector, along with SP Sharath Chandra Pawar, conducted surprise inspections at Vagdevi Rice Mill and Maheshwari Parboiled Rice Mill in Miryalaguda.

He said rice millers have been instructed to avoid delays in unloading paddy arriving from government procurement centres. He warned of strict action against millers prioritising paddy from private sources, leading to delays in unloading stocks from procurement centres. He made it clear that procurement from private sources should begin only after the entire stock from government centres is cleared.

He directed that all lorries arriving from procurement centres be unloaded within 12 hours and sent back promptly. Officials were asked to engage additional labour and hamalies to expedite the process, with a target to complete procurement within 10 days.

The Collector also instructed officials to set up check-posts at Dindi and Avantipuram to prevent the inflow of paddy from other districts.

He added that the procured quantity so far accounts for about 62 per cent of the total paddy produced during the rabi season, with another 2.6 lakh metric tonnes yet to be procured.
