Coldwave Eases as Telangana Heads into Mild Sankranti Weather

Officials said the overall pattern suggests a return to normal seasonal winter conditions, with no significant coldwave expected for at least the next 7 to 10 days.

Hyderabad: Coldwave conditions have eased after six days, with weather forecasts indicating a shift towards milder nights and stable daytime temperatures during the Sankranti festival period.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin, dry weather is very likely to prevail for the next week, with no warnings of abnormal weather in place. Several districts which experienced the minimum temperature falling to 2°C to 3°C below normal are expected to gradually warm up.

District-wise data on Saturday showed the lowest minimum temperature of 7.6°C recorded in Kohir mandal of Sangareddy district. North Telangana districts including Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem, Vikarabad, Nizamabad, and Jayashankar Bhupalpally reported minimum temperatures between 7.9°C and 9.1°C.

In Hyderabad, the minimum temperature stood at 12.8°C, slightly below normal, with partly cloudy and misty conditions reported during early morning hours. GHMC forecasts indicate that minimum temperatures across city circles will steadily rise over the next three days, moving out of cold alert zones. No coldwave warnings are in force for the city.

Day temperatures are expected to remain on the lower side at around 25°C to 26°C in the immediate term due to mid-level cloud cover pushed inland by a depression near the Tamil Nadu coast. However, forecasts indicate a rise in daytime temperatures to around 29°C to 31°C during the Sankranti period.

Officials said the overall pattern suggests a return to normal seasonal winter conditions, with no significant coldwave expected for at least the next 7 to 10 days.
