Cockfight, Betting: 4 Held in Kukatpally

Hyderabad: Kukatpally police arrested four persons for allegedly organising a cockfight and betting, on Sunday. Based on a tip-off, the police raided an open plot near the Government Primary School in Shamsiguda at about 2 pm and found the accused engaged in cockfighting and betting.

The accused were identified as Chilakalapally Kota Sathyanarayana, 34, watchman; Eatathula Ramesh, 36, tractor driver; Kantrakonda Manikonda, 34, trader; and Bayarpu Laxman, 33, watchman. Police seized Rs.6,200 in cash, four mobile phones, four roosters and a knife, all worth Rs.66,200.

Shop owner murdered in broad daylight

Hyderabad: A 45-year-old firewood shop owner, identified only as Srinu, was murdered in broad daylight in Miyapur on Sunday, allegedly over a business dispute, police said. The incident occurred between 1.30 pm and 1.50 pm on Pipeline Road, near Gopalnagar.

According to Miyapur inspector P. Shiva Prasad, Srinu had been running the shop opposite Hafeezpet railway station for five years. Srinu was found with grievous injuries and shifted to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police said a CCTV nearby covered the murder. “We are getting details on the circumstances leading to the murder,” the inspector said. Srinu used to live near the shop and is survived by his wife and two daughters who stay in Mahbubnagar.

Preliminary investigation revealed that he had long-standing business disputes with neighbouring shop owners. Police have identified a suspect, Shahil, said to be Srinu’s former employee, along with other accomplices, in connection with the killing. A murder case has been registered and the Miyapur police were working towards tracing the accused who are absconding.

Man injured when attacked with blade

Hyderabad: Badwal Bardhan, 33-year-old welder, was injured after a man with whom he was having a conversation attacked him with a blade at about 12.10 pm in Janatanagar, on Sunday. The accused has been identified as Bose alias Bhaskar from Moosapet, who is absconding. Bardhan sustained a neck injury and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Police were called to the site by a local, and have taken the victim’s statement.

Driver's honesty saves 2 from losing Rs. 1.2 lakh

Hyderabad: An autorickshaw driver's act of honesty and quick action by the police helped two sisters from losing Rs.1.2 lakh, KPHB police said on Sunday. Lavanya and Ramakrishna Priya, residents of Leninnagar, Jagadgirigutta, had booked an autorickshaw from a ride-hailing application to KPHB Road No. 1 for shopping.

After alighting, they realised they had left their bag in the vehicle and quickly informed the KPHB police about it. Circle inspector Rajasekhar Reddy directed his staff to contact the driver. Within a short span, the driver arrived at the station and handed over the bag along with the cash it contained to the owners. The sisters expressed their gratitude to the KPHB police for their help.

Boy dies of electrocution in KPHB

Hyderabad: A 14-year-old boy died of electrocution while trying to retrieve a shuttlecock from a transformer in Vasanthnagar in KPHB, on Sunday afternoon. Investigation officer Nazeer Miya said the complaint was lodged by the boy’s father, Kotturu Prem Charan, 49, a government employee from Bapatla district in Andhra Pradesh.

The family was visiting Charan’s brother-in-law’s home on Road No. 15, Bhagath Singh Nagar Phase II. Around 3 pm, his son, a Class 10 student, and his cousin were playing in the compound when the shuttlecock fell onto a nearby transformer.

Police said the boy attempted to get it back when the badminton racquet apparently came into contact some live wires, leading to the boy collapsing. He was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

A case was registered with the KPHB police and further investigation is underway. The boy's body was shifted to the Gandhi mortuary for postmortem examination.

Two youths drown while fishing at Tummalapenta Beach

Nellore: In a tragic incident at Tummalapenta seashore in Kavali Rural mandal, two youths drowned while fishing. The victims have been identified as Peyyala Vishnu, 17, and Aila Shivakrishna, 18, of Pallipalem village in Tummalapenta.

Both were working as construction labourers in Hyderabad and had recently returned to their native village. On Sunday, they went to the beach for a casual fishing trip. According to locals, the two, along with another youth named Namcharayya, walked about 100 feet from the shore to set fishing nets. The plan was to return after an hour to collect small fish caught in the nets.

However, while in the water, a sudden whirlpool formed amid the waves. Namcharayya managed to escape to safety, but Vishnu and Shivakrishna were caught and pulled under. Their bodies were later recovered and shifted to Kavali Area Hospital for post-mortem.

The incident has plunged their families into grief. MLA D.V. Krishna Reddy visited the bereaved families to offer condolences.

Kurnool police nab bag-lifting accused

Kurnool: Kurnool Fourth Town police have arrested Gunna Anji, a resident of Ramulavari Veedhi, Siddapuram village, Atmakur mandal, Nandyal district, in connection with multiple bag-lifting incidents at the RTC bus stand in Kurnool 4th Town limits.

The arrest was made on Sunday at Nunepalli in Nandyal town, and around 16 tolas of gold ornaments linked to the crimes were recovered from his possession. The cases include Cr. No. 277/2024, Cr. No. 47/2025, and Cr. No. 102/2025.

The operation was carried out by a special police team led by 4th Town circle inspector A. Vikram Simha, with sub-inspectors Mohan Kishore and Chandrasekhar Reddy, head constables, and constables. DSP J Babu Prasad said the recovered ornaments will be returned to the rightful owners through court orders.

Man killed in road mishap

Visakhapatnam: A 25-year-old man was killed, and his niece suffered injuries when the bike they were riding was hit by a van near Mamidiwada of Rambilli mandal in Anakapalle district. The deceased was identified as A. Vasu, a native of Rambilli. The police said the accident took place when Vasu and his niece were returning to Rambilli from S Rayavaram.

Woman dies by suicide

Anakapalle: A 25-year-old woman died by suicide at Jamadulapalem of Kasimkota mandal in Anakapalle district. The deceased was identified as M. Shyamala. The police said the woman married Manoj, and the couple was blessed with two children. The woman took the extreme step due to some disputes over a property.

Cannabis seized, three arrested

The government railway police personnel seized around 14 kg of dry cannabis and arrested three persons when they were trying to transport it at Vizianagaram railway station. The arrested persons have been identified as Arun Kumar, Ashok and Ragulu; all are natives of Tamil Nadu. The trio procured the weed in Odisha to transport it to Tamil Nadu.

13-year-old boy electrocuted in Eluru district

Kakinada: A 13-year-old boy was electrocuted at Mudinepalli in the Eluru district on Sunday. Due to the holiday at the school on Sunday, Mendella Yesu Raju went to a house where his parents, Anjaiah and Tirupathamma, are working. To clean and wash the floor, Yesu Raju switched on the motor; he met with an electric shock and died on the spot. Yesu Raju was studying Class VIII in Zilla Parishad High School at Tallapudi. With the demise of the boy, grief gripped the village.

Police rescue kidnapped woman official, arrest 5

Visakhapatnam: ASR district police on Sunday rescued the kidnapped Welfare and Education assistant Soyam Sri Soumya and arrested five persons. They have been identified as Kasimkota Anil Kumar (Accused No. 1), K. Uma Mahesh (A2), R. Durga Vignesh (A-3), M. Mani Mohan (A-6) and P. Pawan Kumar (A-7).

On August 7, Anil Kumar and his four associates had abducted Sri Soumya from Sarabhavaram village in Devipatnam mandal of ASR district, so that Anil Kumar could marry her.

Police swung into action and traced the abductors’ movements, including their change of vehicle at Mallisala temple. They first arrested two local facilitators (A-6 and A-7).

On August 10, a special police team apprehended A1, A2 and A3 at Gurthedu and safely rescued Soumya. They subsequently arrested A6 and A7.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that A1 has a criminal background, including involvement in multiple narcotics cases.
