Coal Theft Allegations Baseless, Says SCCL

Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) on Sunday denied allegations of coal theft or disappearance, stating that production, stock, transport and sales are carried out transparently under advanced technological supervision.

HYDERABAD: The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) on Sunday denied allegations of coal theft or disappearance, stating that production, stock, transport and sales are carried out transparently under advanced technological supervision.

SCCL said its multi-layered monitoring framework digitally records and tracks coal from mine to consumer, ensuring every tonne was accounted for. Senior operations officials noted that about 85 per cent of coal was moved by rail and 15 per cent by road, with allocations managed through an integrated SAP system. “Details such as consumer, mine, quantity and supply schedule are digitally recorded in advance. Information on every tonne of coal is continuously monitored through Coal Net, SAP and other online systems,” they said.

The company added that every vehicle transporting coal by road is weighed at electronic weighbridges and monitored in real time through RFID barriers, GPS/GPRS tracking and geo-fencing technology. Loading and dispatch details of each railway wagon are digitally recorded. CCTV surveillance, RFID systems, check-posts, flying squads and security personnel provide round-the-clock monitoring at mines, coal handling plants, weighbridges, railway sidings, stockyards and entry-exit points. Surprise inspections and special patrols are also carried out.

Listing its safeguards, SCCL cited RFID, GPS, CCTV surveillance, Coal Net, electronic weighbridges, company security personnel, flying squads, hologram challans and task-force monitoring systems, and said each operates in a foolproof manner. Any deviation from designated routes is immediately detected and addressed. The company said allegations of missing or stolen coal are “completely baseless.”
