Coal Belt Hosts Local Sammakka-Saralamma Jataras

Asifabad MLA Kova Laxmi and Mancherial MLA K. Premsagar Rao visited the Sammakka-Saralamma gaddelu in their respective Assembly constituencies and offered jaggery to the goddesses.

Adilabad: Local Sammakka-Saralamma jataras are being celebrated at various places across the coal belt areas, drawing thousands of devotees. Local public representatives are visiting the Sammakka-Saralamma gaddelu and offering jaggery to the deities. Families living in the coal belt share a long-standing affinity with Adivasi culture and traditions, which continues to shape these celebrations.

At the same time, a large number of families from Sirpur (T), Asifabad, Mancherial, Bellampalli and Chennur Assembly constituencies travelled to Medaram to fulfil their vows. While lakhs of devotees throng Medaram, thousands more visit local Sammakka-Saralamma gaddelu in their own regions to offer prayers and complete vows.

Asifabad MLA Kova Laxmi and Mancherial MLA K. Premsagar Rao visited the Sammakka-Saralamma gaddelu in their respective Assembly constituencies and offered jaggery to the goddesses.

Kova Laxmi, dressed in traditional Adivasi attire, carried jaggery on her head along with family members and offered special prayers at the Ammavari gaddelu in Buruguda village. She said she has been following the rituals of Sammakka-Saralamma for many years and that her children and other family members are now carrying the tradition forward.

Premsagar Rao, accompanied by his wife Surekha, offered special prayers to the Adivasi goddesses on the banks of the Godavari in Mancherial. Speaking to the media, he said he sought the blessings of the goddesses for the development of Mancherial and the well-being of its people.

Many local residents who were unable to travel to the Sammakka-Saralamma jatara at Medaram are visiting nearby gaddelu to fulfil their vows. For families in the Singareni coal belt, Sammakka-Saralamma are household deities, with rituals being passed down to the younger generation.

Meanwhile, hundreds of devotees are also thronging the Sammakka-Saralamma gaddelu at Mallampet village in Kotapalli mandal of Mancherial district.
