CMC Razes 19 Illegal Structures, Issues Notices To 12; Residents Cry Foul

CMC demolished 19 unauthorised structures and issued notices to 12 others, while residents questioned selective enforcement and delayed action.

The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) said it had demolished 19 structures, issued notices to 12 others in its continued enforcement drive against unauthorised constructions on Saturday, Seven other cases remain pending for further action, it said.

The demolitions were carried out in Serilingampally (9), Kukatpally (4) and Quthbullapur (6). Officials said the drive would continue, with action to be taken as per building regulations.

However, residents have raised questions about the accountability and consistency of the demolitions. “Illegal buildings don’t come up overnight. What were officials doing when these constructions were going on?” asked Narahari, a resident, calling for action against those who failed to act earlier.

Another resident alleged that the CMC was undertaking selective action. “Why only this area? Illegal constructions exist across the city. Why not act against all of them,” he asked.

Some residents also raised concerns over possible corruption and lack of preventive checks. “Demolitions are happening now, but there should be a system to stop such constructions at the initial stage itself,” a local said. Civic officials maintained that identification and action are being taken in phases and all violations will be dealt with as per due process.
