CM Revanth To Launch New Ration Cards Distribution in Suryapet District on Monday

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will launch a new ration card distribution programme at Tirumalagiri in the Tungaturthy Assembly Constituency on Monday.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will launch a new ration card distribution programme at Tirumalagiri in the Tungaturthy Assembly Constituency on Monday. Under the state government's new initiative, at least 12 lakh poor and middle-class people will benefit by receiving new ration cards across the state — increasing the total number of ration card holders to 94 lakh and benefiting around 3.5 crore individuals.

Following the Chief Minister’s launch of the programme, ministers, MLAs, and district collectors will begin issuing new ration cards to eligible applicants. The government has also directed officials and district collectors to finalise the process of identifying eligible candidates for the new ration cards.

During its tenure, the BRS government issued only 49,000 new ration cards, and that too during by-elections and other politically advantageous occasions. In contrast, the Congress government in Telangana is committed to providing basic amenities to the poor and middle-class sections by distributing new ration cards.

The Telangana government’s flagship free fine rice scheme already provides 6 kg of rice per person every month to nearly 3.10 crore people — approximately 84 per cent of the population — through fair-price shops, at an annual cost of over Rs 13,000 crore. In June, July, and August, the state distributed three months’ rations in advance: 18 kg per person, 105 kg per Antyodaya family, and 30 kg per Annapurna family, to ensure uninterrupted supply.
